GAO presents Questions Remain, a solo exhibition of paintings by Michael Murphy (b. 1991, Carlow, Ireland). For the occasion of his first solo exhibition, Murphy has produced a body of new paintings that combine a reduced vocabulary of motifs, such as spirals, helixes and organic patterning, with a bold use of colour. The works are rich and evocative, suggesting possible readings in their spare symbology, while remaining tacitly anti-representational and charting new ground within abstract painting.
Michael Murphy lives and works in London. He graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2019. Recent shows include The Church Painting Show, Blackwing Studios (cur. Ruth Angel Edwards).
A text by Sean Burns has been commissioned for the show.
